Communications Alliance Welcomes Government Consultation Paper on Repeal Day 2

Sydney, 15 April 2014 – Communications Alliance has welcomed the consultation paper released by the Government today containing proposed measures to be included in the Repeal Day 2 package later in 2014.

Communications Alliance CEO, John Stanton, said the seven main deregulatory measures in the paper reflected submissions made to Government by Communications Alliance and service providers, as well as the output of discussions held with Minister Turnbull, Parliamentary Secretary Fletcher and the Department of Communications over recent months.

Communications Alliance will respond to the paper and will look to develop additional proposed initiatives that will also help to lighten the ‘red-tape burden’ on industry and benefit consumers.

“We are exploring, for example, whether the success of the first tranche of consumer information measures under the recently introduced international mobile roaming Standard might make the additional proposed requirements of that Standard unnecessary,” he said.

Mr Stanton said it was important that all stakeholders work to maintain the current deregulatory momentum.
