Submission to Discussion Paper on Government Access to Vehicle-Generated Data

Communications Alliance has provided a brief submission in response to the National Transport Commission’s Discussion Paper on Government Access to Vehicle-Generated Data (VGD).

The submission notes the need for clarification as to whether the data under consideration is supposed to be transmitted through over-the-top services and applications or whether it is envisaged that at least some of the VGD could be considered metadata that is being transmitted via commercial mobile networks.

The submission points out that, if the latter was the case, consideration of implications with respect to data retention requirements and disclosure restrictions under the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979 and the Telecommunications Act 1997 ought to be given.

Keeping Australians Connected During COVID-19

Communications Alliance and the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association (AMTA) have published the third edition of their Keeping Australians Connected online guide.

The updated document provides useful information for consumers on the assistance and offers available from service providers to help customers through the disruptive effects of the pandemic. It gives practical tips on optimising consumers’ network and online experience, now that usage patterns have changed due to the greater incidence of people working and/or learning from home.

Keeping Australians Connected is available here.
