Communications Alliance SSWG Submission on Wireless Broadband in the 26 GHz Spectrum Band

The Communications Alliance Satellite Service Satellite Group (SSWG) has made a submission to the Australian Communications and Media Authority on an options paper on Wireless broadband in the 26 GHz band.

The SSWG supports further consideration for moving towards the refarming stage for the 26 GHz spectrum band, providing that agreement can be reached on defining what the upper and lower boundary of the 26 GHz band should be. The SSWG has developed two options for segmentation across both the 26 GHz and 28 GHz bands (24.25 to 29.5 GHz) for the ACMA’s consideration, with the SSWG’s preference for the first option at 27.0 GHz based on the lack of any justification of excess demand which would necessitate releasing bands above 27.0 GHz for MBB.

Amendments to the Telecommunications (Labelling Notice for Customer Equipment and Customer Cabling) Instrument

Communications Alliance has made a submission to the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) on a proposed amendment to the Telecommunications (Labelling Notice for Customer Equipment and Customer Cabling) Instrument in relation to compliance using IEC System of Conformity Assessment Schemes for Electrotechical Equipment and Components Certification Body (IECEE CB) Test Reports and Certificates.

In general Communications Alliance supports the proposed approach from the perspective of reducing regulatory processes and costs to industry but draws the ACMA’s attention to specific issues for further consideration.

IIC Australian Chapter Seminar

Join the Australian Chapter of the International Institute of Communications, and colleagues from across a range of sectors, to discuss the introduction of Australia’s consumer data right that will be rolled out in Australia’s banking sector in 2019, followed by the telecommunications and retail energy sectors.

This right will give consumers and businesses access to their data and allow them to share it with trusted entities to facilitate the provision of services to the consumer such as comparison and switching services.

This seminar follows the IIC’s successful Telecommunications and Media Forum in Sydney in July where Peter Harris gave a Productivity Commission perspective on the data right in his published speech.

Kindly hosted by Holding Redlich in both Sydney and Melbourne, and moderated by Holding Redlich partner, Angela Flannery, you will hear from:

  • Bruce Cooper, General Manager, Consumer Data Right Branch, Australian Competition & Consumer Commission
  • Pip Freebairn, Policy Director, Economics and Industry Policy, Australian Banking Association
  • Luke van Hooft, Director, Economic Regulation, Optus

With insights from Dr Bill Roberts, Head of Open Banking at the UK Competition and Markets Authority in relation to the implementation of the UK’s open banking regime (pre-recorded).
