AS/ACIF S009:2001 Installation requirements for customer cabling (Wiring Rules)

This Standard defines technical requirements for the installation or repair of customer cabling and customer equipment that is connected, or intended to be connected, to a telecommunications network. Specific requirements for particular telecommunications applications or services may be described in other relevant Standards.

Amendment No. 1 has introduced the following changes to AS/ACIF S009:2001

  • limited to underground cable. Removed ‘outdoor’, filled’ and the examples of ‘grease’ an ‘gel’.
  • new requirement for underground cable that is installed after 1 January 2004 now having to meet the requirements of AS/ACIF S008.
  • new requirements for the underground installation of blown fibre tube systems.

Regulatory Notice

This document was made by the Australian Communications Authority for inclusion, by direct reference, in the Telecommunications Cabling Provider Rules 2000 and the conditions of licence for customer cabling. The ACA was a Commonwealth authority with statutory powers to impose requirements on cabling providers concerning customer cabling and was replaced on 01 July 2005 by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). Notification of this standard was published in the Commonwealth Gazette on 21 December 2001 as a disallowable instrument within the meaning of section 46A of the Acts Interpretation Act 1901. Adoption of this standard as a condition of licence for customer cabling was by written notice under section 432 (3) of the Telecommunications Act 1997. Amendment No. 1 was adopted by the Australian Communications Authority, by amendment to the Cabling Provider Rules 2000, under section 421 of the Telecommunications Act 1997.
