New arrangements for access to IPND data New arrangements for accessing information in the Integrated Public Number Database (IPND) commenced on 15 May 2007 with the introduction of a scheme establishing a ‘gatekeeper’ role for ACMA and the registration of the Integrated Public Number Database (IPND) Industry Code ACIF C555:2007. Introduction of the new 0550 location independent number range A new 0550 number range has been introduced under a variation to the Telecommunications Numbering Plan, taking effect on 31 May 2007. This new number range accommodates nomadic services such as those provided by VoIP Service Providers. The Communications Alliance VoIP Working Group is establishing an Implementation Group to consider the issues affecting the industry associated with the introduction of this new number range.
New Standards Australia Communications Cabling Manual Standards Australia has released the latest edition of the Communications Cabling Manual (CCM), which, for the first time, includes information on the installation of fibre optic communications cabling. The manual comes in two volumes and includes handbooks, codes and regulations for communications cabling and all Standards associated with generic cabling. Both AS/ACIF S008:2006 and AS/ACIF S009:2006, developed by Communications Alliance, are a part of the manual. The communications cabling industry employs some 60,000 installers nationally and this manual will help them understand and comply with all levels of industry and government regulation. Customer Transfer Code published The Customer Transfer Industry Code ACIF C546:2007 was published in May 2007 following a revision to address inconsistencies with the Telecommunications (Do Not Call Register) (Telemarketing and Research Calls) Industry Standard 2007. Minor amendments were made to Section 4.1 - Telemarketing. The Code has been submitted to ACMA for registration.
