The Five-Year Spectrum Outlook gets another refresh by the ACMA
The Communications Alliance Satellite Services Working Group (SSWG) welcomes the latest release of the ACMA’s spectrum management work program – the Five-Year Spectrum Outlook (FYSO). The balanced approach that the ACMA has taken with its band replanning work constitutes an important step in engaging productively all sectors of the industry in the management of radiocommunications spectrum.
However, in its submission on the FYSO, the SSWG has identified a number of areas that still warrant more detailed treatment, including the greater use of in-band co-existence between class licensing and apparatus/spectrum licensing, catering for evolving dynamic spectrum techniques and addressing disparities in licence period allocations. It is recognised that the co-existence of satellite and terrestrial technology is an important theme in the 5G era, and that the ACMA will have an important role to play to allow all stakeholders to fully exploit the potential of 5G and IoT.
The SSWG has also taken the opportunity to provide a response to the ACMA’s consultation on the 3.6 GHz band legislative instruments. The SSWG is generally comfortable with the machinery of government being proposed for the reallocation of the 3.6 GHz spectrum band following the recent Ministerial Declarations.
